Illustration / Paper Frog in Ballpoint Pen

I’ve never recorded the process of a ballpoint pen drawing from start to finish before, and I thought it might be satisfying to watch. Turns out it is satisfying to watch, for the first twenty seconds. After that it becomes a lot more boring and hard to look at because aparently I flake my sketchbook wildly around my desk while I build up colour in a way that I admit looks quite dull in real time, so I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised that it looks quite dull at speed too. Nevertheless, I’ve been watching this video on repeat since I made it, because it’s morbidly curious to watch something that took several hours play out in less than a minute. Enjoy! (Music is Keep Going by Bay Ledges :) )

Ps; that video makes it look like I did the drawing in one sitting, which is a lie. I took breaks to 1) have lunch, 2) put on suncream, 3) go for a nice walk in the woods, 4) chat briefly with my brother, who delighted in interrupting a recording, and 5) recharge my camera battery, because it died, several times, resulting in my missing several chunks of drawing process, but you’d hardly notice anyway, so nevermind that.

Pps; I’ve also included a photo of a frog I came across in Italy four-ish years ago, because I was thinking about him while I was drawing this. I sitll miss travelling. And finally here’s the rest of the ballpoint / origami series I’ve been haphazardly adding to for years:
